Race 1 - Day 4 Crew Diary - London, UK to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil 04 September

As I sit writing this, our boat 'Missy' has just started to race again having spent the last two hours stuck in a dreaded wind hole. Up until this point we had been racing hard and had created a clear gap between ourselves and the second half of the fleet, with very few of these boats left visible on our AIS. Unfortunately, this two hour break has allowed a number of teams to catch up and even overtake, and so we are back to what we do so well: we are on the hunt.
Before this cursed wind hole we had been celebrating our promotion to sixth place; not least because a couple of days ago we had been towards the back of the fleet whilst we waited for our tactical move to play out. To return to the top half of the fleet was testament to a lot of hard work over a number of watches. Now we have to earn this back, but the crew and skipper are confident that we can achieve this quickly.
Outside of the racing, it has been great to see how quickly the crew is bedding down into the watch system. Of course, there are downsides to the watch system such as nobody being sure what day it is, even though we only left London a few days ago, and everyone being confused as to when specific events happened. I have put this down to 'Watch Amnesia'.
